After an extensive search process, the ELCC Board is pleased to announce its unanimous support for Dan Strutt as the new Director, beginning July 4, 2016.
Dan is excited about the opportunity to build on the solid foundation created by retiring Director, Lesley Monette, and the potential for growth of the Consortium based on the strategic plan.
Dan completed his education at the University of Leeds in the UK with a Bachelor of Science, Honours Mathematics in 1995, followed by a Post- Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in 1996. He was a recipient of the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Applaud an Educator Award in 2007.
Before coming to Canada in 2006, Dan taught mathematics in the UK and in international schools in Africa. He has a passion for equity of access for education and sees the online environment as a solution to providing diverse learning opportunities for all students.
For his first three years in Canada, Dan taught math and science at the high school level in London, Ontario. Over the last four years, he has worked in curriculum leadership and management roles at two online schools.
Having been involved in every stage of online school development and blended learning integration, Dan brings extensive skills and experience which will influence ELCC growth:
- effective communicator and relationship builder
- budgeting and marketing
- managing over 20 staff including curriculum coordinators, content developers and instructional designers
- professional development and training for instructors and developers
- policy development
- solid knowledge of various learning management systems
- liaison with the Ministry of Education ( inspections and assessment practices)
- partnerships with international schools
- launched 30 new courses and doubled student enrolments over 2 years
For personal interest, Dan has travelled extensively in Africa and Europe. He is a stained glass artist and has been the stage coordinator for the Sunfest World Music Festival in London, Ontario for the last seven years.
Dan lives in London, Ontario with his wife, Dawn Ruddick, an elementary school principal and their three sons.
The next stages for ELCC are in good hands with Dan’s commitment to enhancing the existing excellent program and to ensuring that our students’ online learning experience is the best it can be.
